Marlena Livingston is an artist and maker working primarily with wool. She is also an experienced painter and ceramicist, art forms she learned and developed while earning her bachelor’s degree in Art Education from the University of New Mexico. As an undergraduate Marlena worked intermittently as an apprentice with the Mayor’s Art Institute, an organization that teaches youth the art of ceramic tile mosaic.
More recently, Marlena has worked as a teacher and facilitator of the arts; she currently teaches middle school art in Albuquerque. In September 2018, she graduated with an MA in Art and Design from the University of Brighton, in the United Kingdom, her work on the degree culminating in a series of needle and wet-felted sculptures that explore the intersections of mental and physical illness, and the process of healing.
